We found in our needs assessment that public health staff want to learn how they can better respond to the needs of community members with disabilities. They need training in how to make their materials and buildings accessible, how to reach out to people with disabilities, how to communicate with them, and how to provide accommodations. Public health agencies also asked how they can connect with disability organizations in their communities to share resources and ideas about health and wellness.
The MDHC will provide a series of training sessions for public health professionals at the state and local levels. We will also provide training to disability professionals, individuals with intellectual disabilities, and families on available fitness and nutrition resources and how to make healthy lifestyle changes.
Stay tuned for our training calendar!
