Overview

This project offers training created by the New Hampshire Disability and Health Program and consist of two, separate courses:

Providing Health Care and Screenings to Individuals with Disabilities

Accessible and Adaptive Communication

These trainings are intended to educate, inform, and better prepare health care providers on best practices when working with or treating individuals with disabilities.

The MODHC project is targeting to reach a minimum of 100 providers across Missouri who represent the ethnic and racial diversity of Missouri’s population.

The training was created to increase awareness of:

  • Health disparities and unique health needs among those with IDD/ML
  • Communication barriers including patient-provider interaction and etiquette
  • Physical barriers, including accessible, medical diagnostic equipment and facility assessments

How to Get Involved

  • Share this flyer promoting free training for reach health care providers, physicians, physician assistants, nurses, others who provide care or work in health care. The training is:

  • Training in health literacy and plain language in both culture and communication for those who work in health services.

Assessment Tools

Physical Accessibility Checklist for Existing Facilities

  • This tool serves as an accessibility checklist when examining facilities. It identifies physical barriers that may prevent persons with disabilities from having equal access services.

Access to Medical Care for Individuals with Mobility Limitations

  • Guidance for medical provider on the requirements of the ADA in medical settings with respect to people with mobility disabilities.

Show-Me ECHO

  • Join a virtual, statewide, multidisciplinary team learning how to assist individuals with developmental disabilities. ECHO teams use case reviews to learn effective strategies to care for individuals with developmental disabilities and behavioral support needs.
